New HR218 Certification Rules …..Bob Livoti

Due to the new laws that the Governor and the rest of the Democrats pushed through the NYS Legislation, retired law enforcement officers in New York State now have new qualifications and hoops they have to jump through in renewing their pistol license. Each county may have their own qualifications so you have to check with your issuing county.

NYPD: If you retired before 2014, NYPD is requiring retired law enforcement officers to provide proof of continuous HR218 Certification from 2014 to present if they retired prior to 2014. If you retired after 2014, you must provide proof of continuous HR218 Certification since your retirement date.
NCPD: NCPD requires that you are presently certified under HR218 before you can renew your license.
SCPD: As far as Suffolk County retired "police" officers, nothing has changed as far as procedure, they renew like they have in the past. "Peace" officers will be changed to a "carry" endorsement and will need to renew every 3 years instead of 5.
